Privacy Policy
Effective 1 September 2026
Rendition is a recipe app. This policy explains exactly what leaves your device, what is kept, and for how long.
What stays on your device
Your recipes, their originals and revisions, meal plans, grocery list, pantry, and cook history live in Rendition's storage on your device and — if you are signed in to iCloud — in your own private iCloud database. Rendition's servers cannot read your iCloud data. Recipes you write or edit by hand are never sent to us.
What is sent to Rendition's servers
- Importing from a website: the public page address you supply, so the page can be fetched and read.
- Importing from a video: the video's address, and the audio your device extracted from it, so the words can be transcribed into a recipe.
- Translation and recipe variations: the text of the recipe being translated or varied. Nothing is stored — these run and are discarded.
What is kept, and for how long
- Recipes extracted from videos are cached against the video, so the same clip is not transcribed twice at cost. Deleted after 90 days.
- Uploaded audio is deleted as soon as its extraction finishes, and swept within an hour if it never does.
- A monthly import count is kept only if your subscription carries a monthly limit, only while you are signed in, and only as a number counted against a random identifier derived from your account — never a record of what you imported. Counts older than the current month are deleted.
The extraction cache is keyed by the video, not by you: two people importing the same clip share one entry. It carries no identifier connecting it to anyone.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no advertising identifiers, and no ad networks.
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDK is bundled in the app.
- No tracking of you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell your information, and there is nothing here to sell.
Server logs record request identifiers, status, and timing for operating the service. They deliberately exclude recipe text, page contents, and model prompts.
Other companies involved
- Apple — iCloud stores your recipes in your own account; WeatherKit answers grilling-weather questions; the App Store handles purchases. Sign in with Apple identifies you to us only by an opaque account identifier.
- Transcription and language-model providers process audio and recipe text to produce a draft recipe. They receive that content to answer the request and handle it under their own retention terms.
- Our hosting provider runs the service and its database.
Location
Location is requested only for local grilling conditions and weather warnings, is used to ask Apple's weather service, and is not stored on our servers. Rendition works without it.
Children
Rendition is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
Deleting the app removes its on-device data; deleting it from iCloud removes your synced copy. Because the extraction cache is not linked to you, there is no per-person record of it to delete — but you may ask us to remove a specific cached import, or to delete your account identifier and its import count, and we will.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the effective date above changes and the updated policy is posted here before the change takes effect.
